What is Trauma Informed Care?

Trauma Informed Care emphasizes physical, psychological and emotional safety and helps individuals rebuild a sense of control and empowerment. If you’ve gone through a traumatic experience, you may be struggling with upsetting emotions, frightening memories, or a sense of constant danger. Or you may feel numb, disconnected, and unable to trust . When bad things happen, it can take a while to manage the pain and feel safe again. But with the right treatment, strategies and support, you can speed your recovery. Whether the traumatic event happened years ago or yesterday, you can heal.

Traumatic Healing4life ©2016  is a program I have created through years of experience with helping individuals work through trauma. My approach focuses on the Neurbiology of trauma; how trauma impacts the brain and the nervous system. It involves several hours of intensive therapy with sessions lasting for two hours at a time. Grace periods are allotted if the session

needs to continue. Between session phone support and crisis visits are also available. Audio and video materials are used to enhance the therapeutic and learning processes.

Neurobiology is a complex science that studies the brain and nervous systems. Experiencing trauma alters the brain and nervous system by interfering with the integration of the emotional and cognitive regions of the brain. If these areas of the brain remain disconnected individuals can remain "trapped" in their trauma. "Trauma trapping" causes many debilitating symptoms as it lurks in the body. Depression, anxiety and dissociation are only a few of the effects of trauma trapping.

Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to form new connections—as well as eliminate old ones—throughout life. In previous generations, people often believed that the neural connections of the brain were fixed by a certain age. We now know that the brain continues to develop and rewire itself throughout life. Experiences, both positive and negative can change the brain’s structure and functioning.

Traumatic Healing4life ©2016 works to integrate the disconnections and create lasting change.
